Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley, Sushma, Rajnath hold meeting on China

Delhi:  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP Chief Amit Shah today held a meeting here to discuss the situation on the border with China and also to prepare for briefing the Opposition on the developments at another meeting scheduled for this evening.

The meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, also discussed government’s response to the developments on the border to be given at an all-party meeting to be held on July 16, ahead of the monsoon session.

The move is to ensure smooth transactions of Parliamentary proceedings during the monsoon session beginning next week as the ruling dispensation is keen to take Opposition parties into confidence especially on controversial and sensitive issues.

Leaders of prominent opposition parties have been invited to the meeting where the two senior ministers will give a detailed presentation on the prevailing situation along the Sino-Indian border, including the standoff in Sikkim sector and on the overall law and order situation and socio-political conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

China and India have been engaged in the standoff in the Doklam area near the Bhutan tri-junction for the past three weeks after a Chinese Army's construction party attempted to build a road. In Jammu and Kashmir, in renewed violence, seven pilgrims were killed by terrorists in Anantnag district sparking off sharp criticism of the government's policies.
